Things change a lot when you have a baby; life goes by quicker and slows down at the same time. As a mom you become pulled in many different directions and it can be a struggle to stay focused on what really matters - no, it's not your dishes and housework or showing your friends your supermom - it's being there for all the needs of that little precious child and leaving everything for later.
Compromise is something we learn as we grow is essential for a successful everything in life - friends, relationships, jobs, house hunting, car shopping etc. No one tells you how this rut of compromise will effect you as a mother, perhaps it effects us all differently but either way a choice has to be made; to continue to compromise or to cease. Ive spent a lot of time reflecting on this idea, watching other moms and and their children. As I prepare to grow a new business I mindfully keep tabs on myself too and you know what? I kept seeing too much compromise. So, as a new mother and mompreneur I refused to buy into this idea that I must compromise and instead choose to be the uncompromising mother.
I refuse to put my business before my child. I refuse to put work that needs to be done around my home before my child. I refuse to put ___________ (fill in the blank) before my child. But how do you accomplish this as a mom and mompreneur??
It pays to be the kind of person that watches people. I've been a people watcher my whole life. I've always loved to watch the way people act when others watch them, when they think no ones looking, how people speak to one another, their body language and their micro expressions. Seeing people, really seeing them is an important skill to have.
I felt the winds of change breezing along my heart and my desire to be in business alone was beginning to fade, I was beginning to realize being uncompromising meant having someone to share the load. I watched the woman of my doula class for several weeks, each woman carrying her own strengths, her own burdens. Slowly each woman began to stick out to me for their individual and unique traits. I noted Emily; her gentleness, kindness, quietness. She seemed very eager to learn and a bundle of excitement and quiet reservation at the same time.
Soon after I began to allow the idea of a partnership to grow Emily and I unexpectedly attended a business class for moms together, I promptly sat with her and talked to her for the first time. I still noted her gentle, kind and quiet spirit but saw some very new things too. Emily was generous, funny, honest, motivated, genuine, free spirited and uncompromising. The more I chatted with Emily and watched her the more connected I felt to her. The way she gently nurtured her daughter, her desire to be a mompreneur and yet be uncompromising in her love and devotion to her child. I instantly felt a desire to get to know her more and that she could be the answer to how I ensure I maintain my uncompromising relationship with my son while still having a successful business.
Time flys - we chatted so much more in the next few weeks and realized more and more our desires, goals, vision, love and passion for mothers, birth and babies were so similar and our friendship so natural that we decided to take the step into working together as doulas under The Pathway Doula Services brand.
I've never been so honoured to welcome someone into my life and business as I am to announce Emily's partnership in doulaing at The Pathway Doula Services.
